Once politically and culturally separate from New York City, Brooklyn began as the opposite of the hipness it has now come to represent. We will walk the two-hundred-year-old streets lined with stately homes designed to lure New Yorkers to a more suburban lifestyle. As we steal breathtaking views of Manhattan we marvel at the peace and quiet, appreciating today the same appeal that drew the first settlers to the cliffs above the East River.
Leaving the Heights, we will descend into the post-industrial neighborhood of DUMBO, nestled around the great stone anchorages of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. Here we will see how the factories and warehouses of centuries past have been repurposed into chic residential, arts and tech spaces. And along the way we will keep the palate pleased, sampling classic treat after treat: from New York bagels, to brick-oven pizza to hand-dipped gourmet chocolate. There’s no better introduction to Brooklyn than this!
